Not that im interested for myself, however for my wife to sink the hook into a shark with 125lb test line and a big 12-0 or 14 - 0, it isnt very easy. she gets by, but im sure there has to be an easier way for woman.

My questions are!!!

Have you used circle hooks?
are they effective?
can i wrap number 19 wire directly to the hook?

and any other feed back you have would be greatly apreciated!!!!

All i use is Owner Super Mutu circle hooks 12/0, 14/0 and 16/0 sizes and i do very very well with them.
The Owner hooks are very easy to set in the jaw let them run then get the line tight, lift up on the rod as you start reeling and its on. :D

i bought the 24/0 cirlce awhile back and had no luck. I would get a run and reel down tight and the shark would be on for maybe a minute and the hook would pull or fall out or something. It happend 8 shark in a row i went back to the j hooks and stuck the first one with no problem.

Shannon, have you thought about a 9-0 for Sandra? I personally find it much easier to handle than a 12-0 or 14-0. She could still catch big sharks, but you wouldn't have to worry about her breaking your bridge record! (Just a female perspective.)

hey whats up its the new jd, and about 90% of the time i used circle hooks in tx and i realy like them. i would take my circle hooks and offset them alot, and when i started doing that my hookup rate increased alot. but i dont know any thing about wire cause all i have ever used is cable.

I had 2 hook ups with blacktips recently using 16/0 circles and #19 wire. I landed them both without any issues. I was using 12/0 and landed about 20%.

Shannon if you will try a short rod with a long but on a 12/0 i think it will help. The mecanical advantage is stronger for the fisherman with a shorter rod.

Try the Lindgren Pitman's, they are much cheaper than the Owners and last longer too! The Pitman's can be sharpened to a razor and can be re-sharpened if they go dull. I love them and they have a very good hook-set when you set the hook! I always use double circles and have a very high hook-up rate. I always invert and place the circle hooks on opposite sides of the bait.

Once an Owner goes dull, it's garbage. If you re-sharpen it, you can guarantee the tip breaking off. Actually any sharpening on a chemically sharpened carbon steel hook like an Owner actually weakens metal and will cause it to break in a much shorter period of time.

The 18/0 Pitman is the only size big enough for big sharks:
http://www.lindgren-pitman.com/c-13-hooks.aspx

100 - 18/0 Pitman's cost $62.00
2 - Owner's cost $20.00

I would rather go with the Pitman's!

God Bless,
Shalom.
